Another day, another recruiting win for Fran Brown and Syracuse football.
Gemaus Sackie, a three-star linebacker in the class of 2026, officially announced his commitment to the Orange in an Instagram post on Sunday. Sackie, a Burlington, New Jersey native, chose Syracuse over offers from Monmouth, Stony Brook, and Temple.
Sackie was ranked as the 80th-overall linebacker in the class of 2026 and the 21st-overall player in the state of New Jersey. The explosive linebacker is a dual-sport athlete, also competing in track and field, and recently helped Burlington Township break the state record in the 4×100 relay with a time of 40.75 seconds.
Brown, also a New Jersey native, won over Sackie after the linebacker took an official visit last weekend. Sackie said that his relationships with Brown and the rest of the coaching staff, including defensive coordinator Elijah Robinson and linebackers coach Robert Wright, were what ultimately convinced him to play for the Orange.
During Sackie’s visit, he also saw the JMA Wireless Dome, describing the atmosphere of the stadium as something he had “never experienced before.”
The linebacker will join a deep, talented 2026 recruiting class for Syracuse that ranks 25th overall in the country, led by four-star wide receiver Amare Gough. Sackie is tied for the fourth-highest-rated recruit in their class, one who will hope to build on a strong first season for the Orange under Fran Brown.
