Syracuse Freshman Reveal Their Numbers

Syracuse men’s basketball revealed in an Instagram post what jersey numbers their incoming freshman class will wear on Saturday.

In the dog days of the college basketball offseason, we’re still a couple of months away from watching Syracuse officially return to the court, but now we know what numbers they’ll be wearing when they do.

The Orange revealed the numbers their incoming freshmen will wear in an Instagram post on Saturday, with the most attention focused on Kiyan Anthony’s number. Anthony, the son of Syracuse legend Carmelo Anthony, will rock the number 7 for the Orange.

Carmelo had his No. 15 jersey retired in 2013, ten years after winning a national championship with Syracuse in 2003, leaving fans wondering what jersey Kiyan would wear for the Orange. Even though it won’t be Carmelo’s No. 15, Kiyan is still honoring his father with his number.

Carmelo wore the No. 7 for 10 seasons in the NBA, most notably during seven seasons with the New York Knicks when he was an All-Star every year and finished in the top 3 in MVP voting. Kiyan’s decision to wear No. 7 earned his father’s approval on Instagram, with Carmelo commenting, “DAMN!!! That 7 hits different at Cuse.”

As for the rest of the freshman class, four-star recruit Sadiq White Jr. will wear the No. 0 after donning the number throughout high school, while three-star recruit Aaron Womack will rock the No. 14. The fourth and final freshman in Syracuse’s 2025 class, three-star prospect Luke Fennell, will wear the No. 9.

We’re still a ways away from seeing the Orange and their talented freshman take the court, but with Syracuse’s retooled roster looking to rebound from a historically bad season last year, it’s hard not to feel excited about what the Orange could do this year as the season approaches.
