It is summer already and that means that college football season is right around the corner. It will be here in the blink of an eye. The students know it, the fans know it and the Syracuse Orange know it, even if they have already realized how difficult their schedule is going to be. The team is confident after last season’s result, a win in the Holiday Bowl against a good Washington State team but, at the same time has just lost core players who helped them thrive last year: quarterback Kyle McCord, running back LeQuint Allen and wide receiver Oronde Gadsden. To put it simply: this is a reboot for the offense.
Given the difficulty of the matches and the tough schedule the Orange will face, predicting the outcome of the season will not be an easy thing for betting enthusiasts. However, it is always possible to rely on the experts in this field. Key games
The Orange will need to play their best from the get-go if they want to replicate last season’s performance or do better, given the strength of schedule. On August 30th they open against the Tennessee Volunteers, which is always difficult since the team won’t be in mid-season form. After a couple of winnable games against UConn and Colgate, they are going to fight for a W in Death Valley, against the always dangerous Clemson Tigers. After that, things stay pretty difficult for them.
Between October and November they face, in order, the Pittsburgh Panthers; Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets; North Carolina Tar Heels; Miami Hurricanes and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The Orange will face a legit battle in all of them, before closing the regular season at home, against the Boston College Eagles. The NCAA season is never easy, for anyone, but the schedule does not look kind at all to Syracuse this year.
The game time for the first showdown is set for noon, on August 30th. The Volunteers recently lost their potentially star-level QB, Nico Iamaleava, during a fierce battle in the transfer portal and the Californian is now back in his home State, where he will play at UCLA for the Bruins. In Tennessee there is a battle going on for the QB1 spot so the Orange may exploit this weakness.
How is the roster shaping up?
At the moment, Syracuse has an intriguing yet unknown QB room. It is possible to find strength in numbers and become way more dangerous with a good balance and chemistry. Head coach Fran Brown should find a way to blend the skills of the players together and get them to do what they do best: playing as a group. The key to putting together a nice season, among all the difficulties we mentioned, is probably this one.
