The Dome Gameday Experience Just Changed

Some things are just bigger than sports. One of those things? The little parts of a gameday experience that make them feel that much more special. For a lot of Syracuse fans, you could say it’s tailgating in the parking lots or climbing up the Hill when it’s cold out. But for most, that gameday experience just changed completely.

Why is that you may ask? Earlier today, it was reported by syracuse.com that Syracuse University is switching soft drink vendors from Pepsi to Coca-Cola. So instead of sipping on an ice-cold Pepsi to go alongside your Dome Dog this football and basketball season, it’ll instead be a Coke.

Now I know you’re asking, why does this matter? Well, the soda wars have been an age-old debate and something I take very seriously. For me, Coke has always been better than Pepsi. There’s something about a Coca-Cola in that iconic red bottle that tastes better than a Pepsi, which usually tastes more sugary in my opinion. Also, having Coke products in the Dome and on campus means that drinks like Sprite and Dr. Pepper will be easily accessible for the first time since the 90s. Let’s be honest, if you think Starry is better than Sprite, we’ve got some serious problems. Also, our website is literally named FIZZ.

The one downside of this move is some popular Pepsi products will be much harder to find around campus, more specifically Pepsi’s energy drink Celsius. From personal experience, a strong majority of SU students have an addiction to Celsius and drink these suckers daily. Without any Celsius being sold in the Dome, will the student section be less energetic than usual?

Back on subject, expect to see Coca-Cola or Pepsi next time you enter the JMA Wireless Dome for a Syracuse sporting event. If it makes your experience more enjoyable, good. If not, focus that negative energy on SU’s opponents instead of the soda vendor.
