Syracuse Basketball Remains In Mix For 2026 Five-Star PG

Syracuse was recently named as one of the final 12 schools for 2026 five-star point guard Deron Rippey Jr.

Weeks after Syracuse football nabbed its first five-star recruit since 2000, Syracuse basketball is looking to do the same.

The Orange were named as one of the final 12 schools for five-star point guard Deron Rippey Jr., which he announced in an Instagram post on Tuesday. Rippey Jr., a top-20 recruit in the class of 2026, received over 40 offers before narrowing down his options to the final 12.

Syracuse will face stiff competition for his services, as North Carolina, Kentucky, Alabama, Miami, Texas, Duke, Louisville, Kansas, North Carolina State, Indiana and Tennessee are the other schools Rippey Jr. has offers from.

Rippey, who is listed at 6-foot-2, is the No. 2 overall point guard in the class of 2026 and plans to visit Syracuse in late September, one of the 10 visits the five-star prospect will make before his decision.

A Brooklyn native, Rippey plays for Blair Academy in Blairstown, New Jersey. He was named New Jersey’s Gatorade State Player of the Year, averaging 16.2 points, 5.3 assists, and 4.9 rebounds last year.

As for how Rippey fits into Syracuse’s long-term plans, the five-star could come in and start right away. If Rippey does end up committing to the Orange, he could form a deadly one-two punch with the son of NBA Hall of Famer Carmelo Anthony, incoming freshman Kiyan Anthony, if Kiyan stays with Syracuse for more than one season.
