Happy September 1: Tracking Syracuse Lacrosse’s 2027 Recruiting Class

While September 1st means a regrouping day for a Syracuse football team looking to bounce back after a tough week 1 loss against Tennessee, lacrosse Head Coach Gary Gait will be looking to craft the next class of Orangemen with the 2027 high school recruiting window opening. Players will usually commit in the coming days and weeks; although that seems like a while from now, lacrosse recruiting truly is an “Early bird gets the worm” ordeal as there aren’t any early recruiting windows that sports like football and basketball use to establish connections. Recruits will talk with schools beginning at 12:01, and coaches will travel for in-home visits in the coming days.

Syracuse already onboarded an elite 2025 class that included six players as top 100 overall incoming freshmen throughout the country. Hansen Peck, one of Syracuse’s incoming stud freshmen, joined the 2025 group early after dominating prep lacrosse with Lawrenceville. Although the Orange’s 2026 class loses Peck’s top 10 prestige, they still have two commits that cracked the top 30. Defender Jayden James, ranked as the 13th best player for 2026, leads the class on his ferocious checks at the pole position.

14 players for the class of 2027 have achieved “Five star status” by lacrosse news conglomerate Inside Lacrosse. These five star recruits have a player score of 90 or higher, with their versatility in different situations being highly valued by evaluators. Lacrosse is a fast-paced and hectic game; every coach wants the defender who can start a fast break, or an attackman who will force an opposing team to make a hard-earned clear.

After making the Final Four weekend this past May, Gait may have a stronger pitch to prospective players. Additionally, Syracuse University’s wide variety of academic programs are appealing to both the player and his family. Syracuse lacrosse is poised for a top-tier class; on-field success and graduation to the professional ranks has been right in line with the likes of Duke, Notre Dame, and the rest of their competition.

5 ⭐️ Goalie, Moe Sobel

Sobel is the top goalie recruit in the country for 2027. He attends sports factory IMG Academy in Florida, and plays club in the summer for nationally ranked Primetime. He was recently ranked as the fifth overall player in the class; Syracuse begins their 2027 class with a bang.

4⭐️ Midfielder, Quincy Quillard

Quillard broke out in his sophomore year at St. Sebastian’s School, with his downhill playstyle helping to jumpstart runs. He uses his 6-foot-3 frame extremely well to maintain possession and assert physical power throughout the game.

4⭐️ Midfielder, Adrian Sweeney

Sweeney is a local kid from Cicero-North Syracuse, giving HC Gait and the staff more visibility of his development during his junior and senior seasons. His highlight tape displays a strong two-way game, which will provide SU with roster flexibility to leave Sweeney out for either an offensive push or when needing a critical defensive stop. SU finishes the second week of ’27 recruiting (Sept. 7-14) with three players in the class.

4⭐️ Midfielder, Garrett Sullivan

Sullivan is an offensive machine; he brings that “Spark” to a team at the midfield position. His athleticism and pure shooting ability alone make him a standout commit in this class. He is the number 52 best player in the 2027 class overall, and looks to continue his development with Salisbury (CT) prep school and his Primetime club team. In a day where the ACC programs feasted with top talent commitments, Syracuse stayed level by grabbing a late-night blue chip player.

3⭐️ FOGO, Gentry Curtis

Syracuse gains their first face-off midfield commit for 2027. Although he is listed as a FOGO, Gentry’s skills exceed that title. He routinely stays on the field for offensive possessions, and has experience anchoring the offense and being a triple-threat player from X. He is Syracuse’s second commitment in less than 24 hours; the Orange are keeping pace with the rest of the nation’s top programs.

4⭐ Attack/Midfielder, Max Kruger

Syracuse’s biggest commitment of the week comes from a dynamic offensive weapon in Kruger. Both an indoor (Box) player and outside lacrosse, Kruger’s fluid skills work off of one another. His body positioning from the indoor game sets him up well against pole defenders; similarly, his athleticism from the larger field of outdoor lacrosse helps. This is a staple win for the Orange.

4⭐️ Defender, Luke LaRocca

Given an 87 rating by Inside Lacrosse, LaRocca excels in on-ball situations. His football background, quarterback for Sanchem North High School (NY), only helps to add to analysts thoughts that he is a true gamer. Look for his name in showcases and tournaments with the elite Team 91 Long Island, a Syracuse lacrosse pipeline.

4⭐️ Defender, Jake Goodwin

Goodwin broke out in his sophomore year at Lawrence Academy (MA), being the primary on-ball defender to some of the best attackmen in the ISL conference. He has a strong frame at 6-2, 210, and was recently named one of Prep Lacrosse’s rising players. SU now adds long poles to their 2027 class in consecutive days.

This article will be updated as the 2027 high school players commit to Syracuse. Please allow time for updates.
