Yesterday, The Lacrosse Network (Commonly known as TLN) posted a graphic displaying just how narrow the gap is between Joey Spallina and Mike Powell is for Syracuse’s point record. Powell, the two-time national champion, amassed 304 points in his career with the Orange. The seemingly untouchable point mark is well within reach for Syracuse’s newest number 22.
Joey Spallina needs 62 points in his senior season to become Syracuse’s points leader.
It seems like a lot, but Spallina has achieved over 62 points every season with the Orange. The attackman hit the 90-point mark last season; He is on pace to complete this impressive feat with the comfort of an extra 1/3 of the season to allow time in case of injury. Although SU features a tough schedule in 2026 with games against Maryland, Johns Hopkins, and Notre Dame, Spallina has hit above 85 points in both his sophomore and junior seasons.
Spallina and the rest of the 2026 Syracuse team are at a do-or-die impass: capture the program’s first national championship since 2013 or fall just short on fulfilling the hype and promise that came with one of the greatest recruiting class of all time (2022). Their personal achievements have already started, and they became ACC Champions with an improbable run last spring. Cuse lacrosse has done it all, except for claiming a national championship with the standout senior squad.
For now, however, Spallina and the rest of the Orange cannot win a national championship: they must continue to “Beat” practice days and readying themselves for February. Even after being highly ranked in the media’s preseason power rankings, SU looks to block out the noise and focus on bettering each other and take each practice and workout at a time.
The offseason anticipation continues…
