It’s been a relatively quiet week in Syracuse athletics. After a six-game losing streak, the football team finally gets a much-needed bye week. Men’s basketball also enjoys a rare break before facing Drexel next Tuesday.
But several other Syracuse teams are making plenty of noise.

In one of the biggest upsets of the fall season, Syracuse men’s soccer blanked No. 5 NC State 3-0 in the ACC Quarterfinals on Sunday.
The first half was a defensive battle, with both teams trading stops and keeping the score deadlocked at 0-0. After the halftime break, Syracuse came alive. In the 52nd minute, Sachiel Ming broke through with his second goal of the season to put the Orange up 1-0. From there, SU’s attack caught fire. Carlos Zambrano scored in the 69th minute, and Tomas Hut sealed the victory late with a breakaway goal.
The 3-0 shutout marked one of the team’s most complete performances of the year. Head Coach Ian McIntyre’s squad has now won back-to-back postseason matches — the deepest ACC tournament run since 2023, when Syracuse captured its first-ever NCAA Championship.
Next up, the Orange travel south to face SMU in the semifinals on Thursday. A win would send Syracuse to the ACC title game and keep alive their hopes for another deep postseason push.

Meanwhile, Syracuse women’s basketball continues to impress. The Orange improved to 3-0 after dismantling Canisius 96-72 on Tuesday night at the JMA Wireless Dome.
Sophomore guard Laila Phelia led the way with a team-high 22 points. The former Michigan standout, who transferred from Texas last season, has quickly found her rhythm in orange. Through her first three games, Phelia is averaging nearly 13 points per contest while shooting 42% from the field
Syracuse head coach Felisha Legette-Jack herself had a milestone week. In last weekend’s 74-50 win over Stony Brook, she achieved her 400th career head coaching victory. A Syracuse native and former Orange standout, Legette-Jack began her coaching career as an SU assistant before taking over at Hofstra in 2002. She went on to collect 343 wins across stints at Hofstra, Indiana, and Buffalo. At Buffalo, she led the Bulls to four NCAA Tournament appearances. Her return to Syracuse in 2022 marked a full-circle moment, as she continues to rebuild the Orange into a contender in the ACC
