Syracuse Football Hires Sean Ryan as Quarterbacks Coach

Syracuse football has its new quarterback coach in Sean Ryan, the team announced this afternoon. Ryan joins SU with nearly 30 years of prior coaching experience, including 18 years in the NFL.

Ryan, who started his coaching career in 1997 at Siena College as the quarterback coach, has bounced around the college football landscape with stops including Harvard, Colgate, Boston College, UAlbany and Columbia. He arrived on the NFL scene in 2007, when he was hired by former Cuse great Tom Coughlin and the New York Giants. Ryan started at a quality control coach from 2007-2009, and was promoted to quarterback coach for Eli Manning from 2012-2013.

In the following seasons, Ryan coached with the Texans, Lions, and Panthers, where he worked with Deshaun Watson, Mathew Stafford, and Cam Newton as QB coach. The New York native comes to SU after spending the past two seasons with the Miami Dolphins as a defensive assistant.

Fran Brown, who moved former QB coach Nunzio Campanile to tight ends following SU’s 3 win season, was pleased with the addition, stating “Sean Ryan is a professional. To be able to go and get him from the NFL, especially with the number of NFL teams that would be interested in getting him with all the movement going on, was great for us”
