“I Want to Win a Natty” — Gavin Doty Brings Championship Swagger and New Life to Syracuse

There’s a different feeling around Syracuse Orange men’s basketball right now.

You can hear it.
You can feel it.

And Gavin Doty didn’t waste any time saying it out loud:

“I want to win a natty… Why not us? I believe it… We’re going to Cuse to win a lot of games — that’s the goal… to win games in March.”

That’s not cautious.

That’s not measured.

That’s belief.

And honestly? It’s exactly what this program has been missing.

The Siena transfer — a first-team All-MAAC selection who averaged 18 points, 6.9 rebounds, and filled up the stat sheet across the board — is heading to Syracuse with something bigger than production.

Energy.

“As soon as G-Mac got the job, it was a no-brainer for me… didn’t even have to think twice.”

That speaks volumes about Gerry McNamara’s early impact.

Because this isn’t just about landing a talented player.

It’s about changing the tone of the entire program.

Doty grew up a Syracuse fan, going to games at the Dome since he was three years old. This is personal.

“I’m extremely blessed… to be able to go back to the Dome and play in a place I grew up loving.”

But he’s not coming home just to soak it in.

He’s coming to win.

Doty pointed directly to McNamara’s development track record and culture as the reason why.

“I think G-Mac is one of the best in the country at player development… and the brotherhood — you’re going to grow as more than just a basketball player.”

That kind of buy-in?

It’s contagious.

Because for the first time in a while, Syracuse doesn’t feel like a program searching for answers.

It feels like one building something.

Doty brings real production, proven toughness, and two years of eligibility.

But more importantly, he brings belief.

And right now, that might be the most valuable thing Syracuse has gained.
