FB Recruiting

2016 Target, Robert Washington, On Current Orange Commits’ Wish List

Even SU’s Upcoming Recruiting Class Is Talking Extensively About 2016 RB Robert Washington.

Football recruits who have their minds certain on their college decisions before signing day sometimes can’t help themselves but to look ahead. That what’s happened for Syracuse prospects.

The Fizz reconnected with Lowell, MA linebacker Shy Cullen over the weekend to catch up with his recruitment as National Signing Day looms in just a few weeks. Understanding Cullen is dead set on repping Orange, the text message conversation dived elsewhere.

Fizz: Do you feel there are one or two guys you all keep talking about?

¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† Cullen: Robert Washington the 2016 running back is one I‚Äôd like to see at ‘Cuse.

Fizz: I imagine you guys in your class are chatting about him?

            Cullen: Yes.

The question was framed for Cullen to mention some sizzling names who are on the fence to join SU’s 2015 class such as Jake Pickard, Nate Howard or Najee Clayton. The trio as well as many committed members of the class took visits to the Syracuse campus during the long weekend.

Instead, Cullen went out on a limb to express not only his own, but his future classmates’ mutual interest in the 4-star ball carrier Washington, who boasts tons of offers, including ones from Syracuse and D1 heavyweights like Ohio State, Notre Dame and Wisconsin. The bulldozer Washington finished up a monster junior season at South Lake Christian Academy in Huntersville, North Carolina with 239 carries for 2233 yards and 27 TDs. He told Otto’s Grove recruiting analyst Justin Roe his feelings about the Orange:

“Let all the Syracuse fans know that Syracuse is very high for me and they will be in it to the end. People always say to me that I have so many options and a lot of bigger football programs to choose from, but I won’t make my decision on the size of the football program. My decision will come down to what the best fit is for me. I don’t care where that’s at.”

Washington is without a doubt an exciting, yet crucial chip Syracuse would love to add. His pledge to the Class of 2016 recruiting class would certainly make up for the frustrating loss of former 2014 WR KJ Williams, who failed to qualify academically and still hasn’t figured his deal out. Maybe Washington finally gives SU the talented player it’s been in search for since the early 2000s. We’ll see.

What is clear is the Class of 2015 is already talking about landing Washington’s services. It’s pretty telling a player like Washington can be so impactful that the recruiting classes in front of him before the ’15 commits have even signed officially are pondering the idea of him coming. Let’s get you guys signed first for crying out loud!

But to admit, it’s exciting to witness.
