DT Christian Colon Puts Syracuse In His Top 5

2016 target Christian Colon names Orange as one of his finalists.

Syracuse’s Class of 2016 is only three strong so far but the Orange got a boost over the weekend in their pursuit of DT Christian Colon. ¬†Colon released his “top five” which was actually comprised of six schools. ¬†Syracuse made the cut along with Penn State, Maryland, UCLA, Pitt and UNC.

Colon is rated at three-stars and he received his offer from Syracuse last month. The 6-foot-3, 325 pound tackle is ranked 56th at his position.  While this is far from overwhelming, he is certainly a player that is capable and is the type of player that Syracuse is accustomed to getting.

Obviously, Colon wouldn’t be a headline grabbing member of the Class of 2016 but his to Robert Washington and Syracuse target Moe Neal are something to keep an eye on.

While he does not currently play with either of them, he has been teammates with them in the past and he referred to them as his “brothers”.

Neal, who narrowed his list of possible destinations to five earlier this month, could be crucial to Colon’s decision.

Colon admitted that if Neal were to commit to Syracuse,  the Orange would definitely become more appealing to him.

“If Moe (Neal) commits, I’d really have to look at Syracuse”.

Again, both Neal and Colon are 3-star recruits and are not program-changing players.  However, teams can not go from 3-9 to being in the national spotlight without a transition period.

Colon could be a part of this transition.  He is a big body who, physically, is ready for the college game.  Not all offers are created equal but he did receive offers from Notre Dame, South Carolina, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Louisville and Boston College.  This should be a sign that he is a legitimate player that could help the Orange secure the defensive line.

However, Orange fans will just have to be patient with Colon because he said he will not make his decision until November 6th when his school, Independence High School in Charlotte, N.C., plays its biggest rival on Senior Night.
