Syracuse Gets Verbal From Penn State Target Isaiah McDuffie

Syracuse has added a second member to its football class of 2017 – the first being Daewood Davis¬†- as Buffalo, New York LB Isaiah McDuffie commits to the Orange. The report initially came from Mike McAllister of Scout.com and has since been confirmed on McDuffie’s twitter.

McDuffie tweeted: “Thanks to all the Syracuse family #CuseFamily #cusetwitterarmy #OrangeNationRising #ACC”.¬† He also retweeted over a dozen of different tweets welcoming him to Syracuse. He has since changed his twitter profile picture to one of the Carrier Dome.

This commitment comes in the midst of a quiet month of July for Syracuse, after an incredibly busy June.

According to Scout, Syracuse was one of three offers that McDuffie received, the others being from Penn State and UConn. He also attended the Penn State Nittany Lions Camp back on June 22nd. Though McDuffie has played linebacker and running back through the first two years of his high school career, McAllister reported that the Orange believe that McDuffie could be used as either a defensive back or a linebacker.

The 6-2, 205 pound Buffalo native is the second member of the class of 2017, joining three-star wide receiver Daewood Davis, who committed to the Orange over Miami, Duke, Florida and others on June 29th.

McDuffie camped with Syracuse over the summer, according to Scout.com, and during this time he became a top target for the Orange for 2017.

It’s a long time before McDuffie can sign his Letter of Intent – February 2017. But getting such an early commitment is a great thing. The Orange can now direct all of their attention and efforts elsewhere as they have one of their “top targets” committed. Obviously, it is also important to remember that this is a verbal commitment and McDuffie could change his mind at anytime, but by committing to Syracuse so early in the process, he really limits his options as it is unlikely he will receive many more offers.
