“I Want To Get More Humble:” Daewood Davis Talks SU, Goals and Much More

SU’s first 2017 commit opens up.

Earlier this week 2017 Florida wide receiver Daewood Davis committed to Syracuse. He is the first player in SU’s 2017 recruiting class. Davis spoke with the Fizz this week about why he committed to Syracuse so early, which of his Somerset Academy teammates are also getting looks from the Orange, his personal goals, and much more.

Davis first touched on why he committed to SU despite the fact that he has not yet visited and that the 2017 National Signing Day is a year and a half away.

“The reason I committed to Syracuse early is because I was doing my research on Syracuse and I fell in love with the education [the school provides] and also I fell in love with the fan base Syracuse has.”

Davis initially wanted to commit to Miami, but the Hurricanes did not accept his verbal.

“I tried to commit to Miami, but the coach that gave me an offer from Miami, he gave me an offer, but he didn’t tell coach Al Golden that he gave me an offer so when I tried to do it, it was kind of confusing.”

The wide receiver then shared that two other players from his high school team are being recruited by Syracuse.

“Our defensive and offensive lineman Jason Swann and our slot receiver Eric Pierre [are also receiving attention from SU.]

Davis finished the interview discussing what he wants to improve on before he gets to Syracuse in 2017.

“I’m already humble, but [I want to] get more humble and stay focused… Everywhere I go people tell me how to do things. I’ll still listen to my coach, but if I see something I’ll tell the coach I see this or I see that and then I’ll do it.”
