Keirston Johnson Opens Up Recruitment

Johnson decommits less than two weeks out from visiting SU.

Florida linebacker Keirston Johnson decommitted from Syracuse on Wednesday. He broke the news in a tweet.

Johnson visited Syracuse at the end of July and called the visit “great.” When he had initially committed, it was before coming to¬†SU.

‚ÄúI just know there‚Äôs a lot of history behind Syracuse after talking to the coaches, I just feel like this was my best option. Even though I had never visited, I know I was going to love it when I got there,” Johnson told the Fizz at the time of his visit.

The Florida native also talked about his strong relationship with linebackers coach Tom Kaufman. Kaufman made two separate trips to Florida to see Johnson in action and then met with him on his visit. Unfortunately, those efforts came up short.

The loss hurts, but Syracuse will manage. Johnson is ranked as the 64th inside linebacker in the 2017 class, according to 247 Sports. He’s obviously talented.

The good news is that SU has recruited the linebacker spot well this cycle. Nadarious Fagan and Kadeem Trotter are two highly sought after recruits. The Orange has also landed a commitment from Canadian linebacker Tyrell Richards.
