“Of course I’m excited about the Tampa-2,” Keirston Johnson Talks With The Fizz

The Florida native loved visiting SU.

Linebacker commit Keirston Johnson visited Syracuse last week for the first time. He joined Fizz Radio to discuss the visit, why he committed before heading north and his relationship with Tom Kaufman. Below are some of the highlights from the discussion.

On why he chose SU before visiting the campus

“I just know there’s a lot of history behind Syracuse after talking to the coaches, I just feel like this was my best option. Even though I had never visited, I know I was going to love it when I got there.”

On how Syracuse separated itself from the other schools recruiting Johnson

“The ACC is a top division. A lot of my favorite college teams are in the ACC. I feel like I have a really good opportunity to come in and play. Even thought it’s all the way up in New York, we’re still playing a lot of southern schools in that conference. It’s my best opportunity.”

On Tom Kaufman

“I have a great relationship with coach Tom [Kaufman]. He coaches the linebackers and he’s recruiting me. He came down a couple of times to go to my practice and we talked a little bit. Then he came again and went to my spring game. That’s a long trip and he kept coming back. They told me that I’ve been at the top of their board.”

On the Tampa-2

“Of course I’m excited about the defense. I feel like I can play in any defense. I’m just going to go out there and be a head hunter like I usually am and make plays on the ball.”
