Fan Favorite Joe Girard Puts Syracuse in Top Six

Syracuse basketball took a step in the right direction with Class of 2019 guard Joe Girard. The Glens Falls product listed the Orange in his top 6, according to a tweet.

SU has been in on Girard for a while. The Orange offered him back in early February and has become a big topic of conversation amongst fans as a potential commit.

Despite being just a three star recruit, according to 247Sports, Girard is coming off a season where he averaged a 2K MyPlayer-esque 50 points per game. That was a part of a historic season where he broke the New York state scoring record, surpassing Pacers’ guard Lance Stephenson’s previous mark.

As you can see by Girard’s other offers, Jim Boeheim and the Orange are going up against plenty of great coaches and recruiters for the guard. It is also a strictly ACC and Big Ten field in the running for Girard.

Assistant coach Gerry McNamara has been the lead recruiter for the 6-foot-1 guard. Girard is known for his shooting ability, much like McNamara, and is connecting on 37 percent of his threes this summer. His 40 three pointers made is good for top 15 on the Nike EYBL Circuit where he plays of the Albany City Rocks.
