Syracuse Offers to Giant Two-Sport Star

Keith Lumpkin hoops AND plays on the offensive line. Can Marrone reel him in?

Everyone gets sick of Fuccillo commercials. However, their motto proves its worth in this recruiting post.¬†Keith Lumpkin from Jersey City is HUUUGGGEEEE. Syracuse has an offer to the 6’8″, 295-pound giant. That kind of build has attracted a bevvy of colleges looking for his services.

Ever seen The Blind Side? Well, Sandra Bullock explains in the beginning of the movie how rare it is to find a solid tackle recruit at the upper level.

This is where¬†the 3-star¬†Lumpkin comes in.¬†Norte Dame, South Carolina, West Virginia, and a slew of others are out for the big guy from St. Peter’s prep.

And that’s not all he’s got in the bag.¬†He is also a star basketball player, and as our friends over at¬†Northstar sports did an interview, he can relate weave into each other.

NB: “What do you think [are] some of the ways that your football and basketball abilities help you to compete in both sports?”

KL: “It makes you work harder. In basketball, you got to sometimes foul a person hard, and in football you‚Äôre always going hard, so . . . the aggressiveness kicks in in both sports.”

He’s not the same top-notch prospect that, say, a Greg Paulus was for basketball. However, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him hang with the hoops team at whatever school he chooses. Right now, the Orange has an offer out for the big guy, and we’ve seen SU football players dabble in the basketball world on campus (see McNabb, Donovan and Williams, Mike).

Lumpkin’s got offers all over the place, as you could imagine. Should he end up in Orange, Doug Marrone would have a Big Fish for his recruiting resume.
