It’s Akron week, which means it’s time for you to dig into our latest FizzCast. No excuses from you this time Рyou’re bored at the cubicle and you definitely have fifteen minutes that you’d rather not spend filling out your TPS reports.
Injuries have been the dark cloud hanging over SU’s preseason and with game one less than a week away, Ted Conroy is finally ready for the team to hit the field and the negative stories to go silent:
“You’ve had so much happen to this team over the course of training camp. I almost think it’s going to be a good thing for this team to get out and play a game just so the media can’t focus so much on talking about the injuries. Obviously we’re knocking on wood saying injuries aren’t going to be the story of the game against Akron, but I think this team needs to get out and play right now. Nobody has had anything but speculation for the last eighth months and I think it’ll be good to start focusing on some on-field stuff.”
This past week The Fizz was curious what the one headline of training camp was Рif you could even pick one:
“When I think of the past season and what went wrong, it was the defensive backfield. I‚Äôm really excited to see what the secondary does. While the offensive line has been a difficulty the last few years in Syracuse, I think this defensive secondary is the difference between bowl game or not.‚Äù
And with all that’s been going on, D.A. speculates as to whether Doug Marrone has reached his breaking point and snapped out of complete positivity:
“I think Marrone is a little exasperated right now and looking to heaven for some divine intervention. He’s certainly bordered between optimism and realism, but this is a little ‘Woe is me’. This is a grind, this is a job and I remember asking him at Big East Media Days what the toughest day of his job was for him and he said every day is tough. Sometimes that type of thing can wear on a guy.”
Conroy and I wrap things up trying to figure out where SU stands in the recruiting food chain when it’s trying to compete with the Kentucky’s of the world.
Go Syracuse. Beat Akron.
