A day after Frank Anselem committed to Syracuse, the Orange have landed another four-star in Benny Williams. Williams is a 6-foot-8 small forward in the class of 2021.
The Maryland-native picked Syracuse over closer options like Maryland and Georgetown, in addition to Miami which rounded out his final four options. Williams also received scholarship offers from Clemson, Florida, Pittsburgh, Seton Hall, and Virginia Tech. He currently attends St. Andrews Episcopal School which is close to Washington D.C.
Williams is an amazing recruit for Syracuse. To go along with his consistent four-star rating, he is ranked 37th nationally and the ninth best small forward in his class according to 247Sports. ESPN has him tabbed at 53 overall.
Williams is a long, athletic forward that will fit perfectly in the two-three zone. Here are his sophomore year highlights:
Williams will be a great addition to an improving Syracuse roster. Just two days ago the narrative of “Syracuse can’t recruit” was alive and well, but in back-to-back days the Orange land two four-star prospects. It is in large part thanks to Assistant Coach Adrian Autry, who was the main recruiter for both Williams and Anselem.
Williams told Evan Daniels of 247Sports that he “picked them because of the relationship we built going back two years ago, especially coach Red [Autry] and with coach [Jim] Boeheim. … They didn’t just tell me what I did right, they told me what I need to get better on from last season and the upcoming season in order to get ready for the next level.”
Williams also said, “I think I can come in and impact the program right away and hopefully lead them to a national championship.”
It can also be said that the lore of Dior Johnson is helping a lot to recruit these very talented players. Taking a look ahead, in 2021 Syracuse will have among others Joe Girard, Buddy Boeheim, Alan Griffin, Quincy Guerrier, Frank Anselem, and Kadary Richmond. Then in 2022 add in Johnson and any other high-level recruits that he brings with him. It makes the future of Syracuse basketball very bright and exciting.
Yes landing Williams is huge for Syracuse and if you are an Orange fan you should be really really happy, but I’ll leave you with one thoughtРif and when Jim Boeheim retires how does that impact these players’ decisions?
