The summer has already been a win for Syracuse. Four-star sharpshooter Justin Taylor has committed, forming a lethal combination in the Class of ’22 with Kamari Lands. Taylor is rated anywhere between 54th and 99th nationally according to services, totaling #84 as a composite ranking most recently. Considering the commitment of Donovan Clingan to UConn and the presumed attraction of Duke to Kyle Filipowski, the Orange may not be adding another big gun to this class.
But hold off on assuming this class is complete. Taylor said after his commitment he’d not only be reaching out to Filipowski, but Quadir Copeland as well.
“I’ve talked to both Kyle Flip (Filipowski) and Quadir (Copeland), they’re both my guys. I talk to them a ton. I haven’t had a chance yet, but I’m definitely going to hit them up tonight. I’ve been talking to them a lot so I think they probably knew. I’ve been talking to Quadir a lot, he loved his visit. Just got back from his and obviously Kyle took his right before mine. I think they both loved it. I think we could build a really, really special class.” – Justin Taylor to Mike McAllister
The fact SU beat out ACC powers UNC and Virginia to a Charlottesville native is already an impressive fact. Filipowski is rated as the 20th best prospect of his class and rising steadily.
Copeland is a skilled 6’6″ guard who has built a solid relationship with the SU staff. He’s also rated by Rivals as a top 100 recruit (#85). He recently raved about the Orange visit.
‚ÄúSyracuse was amazing. I love Coach Boeheim and everybody up there. Coach G-Mac is my guy and you know, it was definitely a fun experience being around those people and just the way they treated me was amazing.” – Quadir Copeland
As we’ve noted, the Lands/Taylor connection already makes the SU class one of the best in the nation. But the idea Taylor will also lend some assistance to Filipowski and Copeland means the Orange are in great position this summer.
