Top 100 recruit Chris Bunch could be the final piece of the Syracuse Class of ’22. It’s a group that already has talent and upside, but could really benefit from one final elite player. Bunch is a 6’7″ small forward out of California and announced his final three schools are Syracuse, Rutgers and Washington.
Just last week the Orange beat the Scarlet Knights to a player when they got a commitment from big man Peter Carey. But Bunch would be a different kind of addition. Carey is an unknown, a player that has only recently began to catch the attention of high majors and is seen as a player that will need polishing. The ultra-confident Bunch is a 4-star player ranked #72 in his class by 247 Sports.
He told On3.com (paywall) what he thinks about each of his finalists. He will make a decision by Halloween.
Syracuse: “I love Coach (Jim) Boeheim. I love the program. The dome is amazing, like the fans, the experience. I would say the thing I like the most about Syracuse is the fans. They love basketball. I was there for a football game and they really love their sports.”
Rutgers: “I love Coach (Steve) Pikiell and Coach (TJ) Thompson. They love me. I get great energy from those guys. New Jersey is crazy. I’ve never been to RAC (Rutgers Athletic Center) live, but their facilities and everything they have out there is super nice. I know what they want me to come in and do.”
Washington: “I’ve never been to Seattle before so it was my first time going out there to see the school. It was good seeing Coach (Mike) Hopkins, Coach (Will) Conroy, and Q.P. (Quincy Pondexter). It was cool to experience PAC-12 energies. It was kind of different from everywhere else. But it was really nice being out there in Seattle so I could imagine myself in every situation possible.”
Carey noted that the SU fans helped sway him. He attended the Liberty football game and was impressed by the loyalty he saw in the Dome. Wait until he experiences Duke or UNC inside the Loud House during hoops season. Bunch is echoing the same thoughts. It’s amazing that even in a half empty Dome for football Orange Nation has its voice heard. Tip of the cap to the crazies under the bubble.
