Earlier this year, Syracuse’s 2022 recruiting class was jolted by an unexpected commit. He had never visited Syracuse and many thought a majority of SU’s commits would find their way to the 315 during the summer. But four-star Kamari Lands defied those expectations, choosing the Orange in April.
But after a summer that saw Syracuse nab a possible top 10 recruiting class in the country (which included Lands), the 34th ranked player in the ’22 class according to ESPN announced his decommitment in August. It drew many questions about SU’s ability to keep top ranked recruits and led to speculation about where the 6’8″ forward would end up.
As of today, that speculation is over, and Lands’ choice to decommit is the last of the Orange’s concerns. Instead, SU has to worry about going up against the Indiana native, with the four-star recruit choosing Louisville as his collegiate destination.
This is dire for an Orange team that watches another top recruit stay in the conference, but elect against Syracuse (the other notable name being Kyle Filiposwki). The good news is that SU still has five three-to-four-star recruits inbound next season. But the matchups against Lands and Louisville now will have an extra layer attached to them, knowing that the four-star on the other side originally chose to don Orange.
There won’t be plenty of new information surrounding the 2022 class with the new year upon us, so make sure to follow along to our 2023 recruiting class wishlist, keeping Fizz Nation up to date on the latest news for the upcoming year of Syracuse recruits.
