We’ve said it numerous times, and it still holds true. Fran Brown has had close to a perfect start as Syracuse’s head coach. From bringing in Kyle McCord and Fadil Diggs from the transfer portal to KingJoseph Edwards and other highly touted high school recruits the talent level in the 315 has grown immensely. But, there is still one major hole in the roster that Brown needs to fill soon.
The offensive line might be the most important position group in football. Without a good offensive line, you won’t be a successful football team. Syracuse has struggled mightily with its offensive line at times. Injuries played a big part, but the SU offensive line just never figured it out this season. Fran Brown needs to figure it out going into 2024. Kyle McCord is a really good quarterback when he has a clean pocket. But, when the Ohio State transfer faces pressure, he struggles.
The Orange got their first commitment on the o-line this week as Fran Brown secured the commitment of Georiga transfer Joshua Miller. The Richmond, Virginia native is an interesting prospect. The guard was a three-star out of high school but had offers from a ton of powerhouses. The redshirt freshman didn’t see any time in 2023 and had his grade actually go down a little in the portal. Miller was ranked the 24th-best IOL in the portal, which isn’t great. However, the one offer that Miller made public was from Auburn. The philosophy that stars don’t matter, but what schools offer players is one that is interesting and could apply when it comes to Miller. He may be just a three-star, but the fact that Georiga, Penn State, and Auburn all wanted him says something.
Miller is a strong start for Fran Brown, but if he wants success next season, he will need a lot more help in the trenches.
