Who Might We See For Syracuse Against Holy Cross?

Let’s be honest here for a second. As much as we want to build up games to be as interesting and exciting as possible, Syracuse is taking on Holy Cross on Saturday. The Crusaders are 1-3 at the FCS level, and stand little to no chance against the Orange. Because of this, we may have the opportunity to see some players for SU that usually don’t see the field. Here are the players to watch out for:

KingJoseph Edwards – EDGE, Freshman

Why not start with the man who kind of started it all? The four-star recruit was the first of many to believe in the Fran Brown era, committing all the way back in December of 2023. So far in the 315, Edwards has made his mark giving back to the community. But Saturday could be the first time the freshman takes the field. The Georgia native was the 24th-ranked edge rusher in his class and made his mark with an explosive strip-sack in the Spring Game back in April. A possible future leader of the defense could make his mark this weekend.

Yasin Willis – RB, Freshman

This one seems a little strange, but bear with me here. The three-star recruit has gotten some game action this season, however, it’s been just eight carries for 20 yards. Many expected Willis to become an immediate game-changer this season (myself included,) and this feels like the perfect game to do it. The Crusaders defense is not strong, so perhaps Willis can show the Orange fans why he’s a force to be reckoned with on Saturday in the late quarters.

Michael Johnson Jr. – QB, Senior

If anyone is going to come in as a backup, it would be Michael Johnson. The FAU transfer joined SU this season after playing receiver and found himself winning the backup role over Carlos Del Rio-Wilson. With his dad being the co-offensive coordinator this year, it makes too much sense. No need to risk injury for Kyle McCord if the Orange go up big. Johnson Jr. has been touted with some arm talent, so that could be an interesting watch for Syracuse fans.

No matter what, the Dome should be electric this weekend with a capacity crowd expected. Unlike the Stanford game, hopefully the Orange reciprocate that energy and improve to 3-1.
