Without further ado, let’s roll out another S.O.B. – the natives are getting restless. I think I saw Andy Dick humping John Lithgow’s leg.
And the 2010 S.O.B. for Best Moment of the Season goes to… Nova’geddon!
There was some support from CuseOrange and Cuse Country for the the hammering of North Carolina at Madison Square Garden. At the time, we didn’t realize the Tar Heels would be defending National Champion frauds, crashing and burning into the NIT, while Roy Williams looked stunningly like Huckleberry Hound more by the night.
Big Orange Bloggers and the Bleacher Report voted the Georgetown wins as signature moments this season. And who could blame them? Not once, but twice, the Orange stormed back to knock off the Hoyas and tighten it’s choke-hold on the Big East. Not surprisingly, Hoya Suxa opted for Ohio bombing JT3 and co. in the first-round of the tourney. Ah, that was just good ol’ family fun – rendering the three-seed into Hoya doo-doo by halftime.
But the overwhelming winner for Best Moment of the ’09-’10 season goes to Nova’geddon. Record attendance at the Dome. ESPN’s Gameday stirring the pot from early in the morning. Nationally televised audience in primetime. An annihilation of the next-best team in the Big East (or so we thought). Delone Carter destroying the face of a snowball-throwing kid on Euclid.
Just a night of epic proportions.
The demolition of the Wildcats essentially locked down a number-one seed for the Orange. The game convinced many in the college basketball world, Syracuse was the best team in the nation. The momentum from the win vaulted SU to the number-one ranking in the country. It capped an incredible conference season and locked up the Big East’s regular season title.
We would’ve all rather voted for a dramatic win over Kansas State to send the Orange to the Final Four. Or a national championship death-match with Duke for The Per’fesser’s second title.
But for one Saturday night in February, all was right in Orange Nation.
