The Orange received its first official 2015 commit today when TE Trey Dunkelberger signed his letter of intent at 8:30 this morning from Los Angeles. The tight end said he was beyond excited to sign on with the Orange.
Florida State was interested in Dunkelberger but he said he stuck with SU because they were with him from the beginning.
‚ÄúI just felt like I was at home. Once these other schools came I just felt like it was because of what I had. I wasn‚Äôt as sure as [I was with] Syracuse,” Dunkelberger said. “Syracuse was there for me when I had a few offers‚ĶI just feel like Syracuse is my home and there‚Äôs no place I‚Äôd rather be.‚Äù
Dunkelberger believes in the Syracuse cause so strongly that he wants to help recruit other 2015 football players.
‚ÄúI built a great relationship with the kids on the visit who haven‚Äôt committed yet,” he said. “I‚Äôve been working on a few players to try and get them to decide on Syracuse as well. It seems to be going well, everyone sees what the goal is for next year.‚Äù
As far as next season goes, Dunkelberger believes he will add an important aspect to Tim Lester’s offense.
‚ÄúWhat they want to do with me is a lot of different things,” Dunkelberger added. “[They want to] spread me out wide and also [put] me in the slot and then in the backfield. It‚Äôs going to be a lot of fun getting used to that. We‚Äôre getting a new playbook this spring so everybody‚Äôs going to be learning it together. It‚Äôs going to be great.‚Äù
SU‚Äôs first official commit will arrive in January to participate in the Orange’s spring practices.
