The commitment of 2016 five-star shooting guard Tyus Battle to Michigan in the fall of 2016 is tough for Syracuse.
But here’s why it’s not it may not be as bad as it first looked:
- Shooting guard is not the Orange’s biggest need. SU just hopes that Malachi Richardson stays more than a year. If he does, it is highly unlikely Battle would start as a freshman. Maybe this was oneof the factors that made him commit elsewhere?
- The Orange need another point guard and have scholarship limitations. Another PG would¬†take pressure off of Kaleb Joseph. Michael Gbinije is sure to play time at the one, but will be graduating. While improvement should¬†be expected for Joseph, he probably won’t become a Tyler Ennis-type, 40 minute a game point guard.
- Point guard Alterique Gilbert could be the perfect solution. He provides that depth at in the back court and has SU high on his list.
The commitment of Battle to Michigan hurts but the Orange can recover.
