Syracuse football has already come face-to-face with two former coaches this season.
In what has been called an emotional game for the Orange in week 2, SU rivaled former Syracuse head coach Scott Shafer as he returned to the Carrier Dome for the first time since being fired at the end of the 2015 season. Shafer is not the defensive coordinator for Middle Tennessee State.
Last week, Syracuse went head-to-head against former SU assistant coach Ed Orgeron in Baton Rouge. Orgeron is now the head coach at LSU.
As the Orange turns the next page in the 2017 football season, it encounters yet another familiar character in the Syracuse football coaching story.
This time, former Syracuse offensive coordinator George McDonald will be across the field. McDonald is in his third year as wide receivers coach/passing game coordinator at NC State.
While emotions were not said to be a factor in the SU loss to LSU on Saturday, the Orange has now lost both games with former coaches on the other sidelines. If for no other reason than bowl chances toward the end of the season, it’s important Syracuse gets the W after this one.
