Syracuse football fans have reason to be positive about the upcoming season if the latest betting markets are any guide.
While the Orange certainly aren’t favorites to go all the way to the college football playoff, the odds do suggest they are in strong contention in the conference. An ACC Championship is a real possibility, with Syracuse fourth in that betting market. That would be a best-case scenario Orange fans would excitedly celebrate.
The season is still a few weeks away from kickoff, but it‚Äôs never too early to look at the betting odds for some context on the landscape. Here’s our best sports betting tips for the Syracuse Orange (2019 NCAA Division I FBS) football season.
Syracuse’s ACC Championship Betting Odds
Syracuse has been voted second in the preseason ACC Atlantic Division rankings, behind only national champion Clemson. The Tigers will again be the main barrier to a Syracuse ACC title.
Here are the latest 2019 Atlantic Coast Championship odds from Sports Interaction: Clemson, -303, Miami Hurricanes, +800, Florida State, +1400, Syracuse, +1600, NC State and Virginia Tech, both +2000, Virginia, +2500, all other contenders +3400 or more.
Miami has building expectations with a change at head coach and talent across its roster, but the Canes are routinely underachievers. Florida State is only a few years removed from the final four, but was a complete mess last season under Willie Taggert. Incredibly, Vegas is sold on the idea SU actually has the fewest question marks of any challenger to the Tigers.
Syracuse’s NCAA Title Betting Odds
A national championship might be unrealistic, but it can’t hurt to dream – right? The good news is Syracuse is in the picture, somewhat. According to the latest odds, Syracuse Orange is paying +13400 to be crowned the 2019 NCAA national football champions, #33 overall in the betting odds. This might seem like a lot, but stranger things have happened. This year alone, the St. Louis Blues came back from 250/1 odds mid-season to win the Stanley Cup.
Who are the major NCAA title contenders? Surprise, the Clemson Tigers are number one with +280 odds, ahead of the Alabama Crimson Tide, +320. The three other major title challengers are the Georgia Bulldogs, +900, Oklahoma Sooners, +1500, and Michigan Wolverines, +1700.
Syracuse the Betting Favorite on Opening Day
SU has a chance to start the season fast. According to the latest bet365 odds, the Orange are -17.5 in spread betting in the opening game against the Liberty Flames.
Syracuse has won its last five season openers, with the most recent loss coming against Penn State at MetLife Stadium in the opening match of 2013.
Liberty out of Lynchburg, Virginia, will compete as a full FBS member for the first time this season. The Orange and Flames have arranged to meet in each of the next three seasons, starting with their season opener at Williams Stadium in Lynchburg on August 31. The next two Syracuse-Liberty games will take place at the Carrier Dome. This season’s Syracuse much-anticipated home opener will take place on September 14 against… NCAA championship favorites Clemson.
