Don’t look now but Syracuse is on a win streak. After a 71-69 victory over Virginia Tech the Orange has won 3 in a row and March dreams are starting to flicker again. That may not seem like much to the powers of the ACC, but considering where SU was just a few weeks ago this all registers as seismic.
Buddy Boeheim had an 18-point first half and finished with 26 on 10-20 shooting. He stepped up early and set the tone in an important game on the road against a team SU may be battling for an at-large bid in March.
Both the Orange and Hokies are 4-3 in conference, so building some resume victories and bracketology bullet points is crucial right now. Guessing SU would be above .500 in the ACC two weeks ago would’ve left many questioning your sanity. The Orange have turned things around dramatically after a start to the league season which looked like a road to nowhere.
There‚Äôs still plenty of winnable games left on the schedule, and SU appears to have found a chemistry and combination that‚Äôs been working. Buddy has always had a bit of a skeptical glare on him as the coach’s son. Critics would say the only reason he’s a starter on a team at this level is because of nepotism. But he’s proving those people wrong. He’s developed into one of the best scorers in the ACC, and a season that once looked doomed to the NIT or worse has flipped. A victory in Blacksburg isn‚Äôt reason for fireworks, but combined with the previous two wins the Orange are finally pointed in a positive direction.
