Sadiq White, a five-star power forward from the class of 2025, committed to Syracuse basketball on Wednesday night. The Charlotte, North Carolina native is the first Orange recruit from that class to commit to SU.
White was considering six other schools: Alabama, USC, LSU, Tennessee, Georgetown, and Texas. Other schools that displayed interest or gave offers include plenty of ACC schools like Florida State, Georgia Tech, NC State, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest. However, he ended up choosing Syracuse. The reasons why were simple.
“The genuine love they have for me,” White said immediately after committing. “They tell me the stuff I don’t want to hear about my game. I feel like I’m going to grow up there and get better as a player.”
Sadiq White is 6’8″ and 180 pounds, which may sound like a smaller frame for that height, but there are reasons to be optimistic.
“He has long arms, broad shoulders, and an explosively athletic frame,” says On3 scout Jamie Shaw.
White is a five-star recruit according to 247’s composite rankings. 247 Sports has him ranked as the number 25 player in the 2025 class, while On3 puts White at number 26. Both services rank him as the top recruit in the state of North Carolina. The fact Syracuse pulled him away from the powerhouses in that state is a good sign.
The forward took two unofficial visits, and can still take an official one, even though he already committed to SU.
Sadiq White represents a great step in the right direction for Syracuse as the team’s first player from the 2025 class. That’s important, as the domino effect could help pull in other stars, such as Kiyan Anthony.
2024 was also a successful cycle for the Orange. SU landed five-star power forward Donnie Freeman and four-star shooting guard Elijah Moore in that class.
