The transfer portal spares no one.
Days after it was reported that freshman forward Petar Majstorovic was unsure about returning to play for Syracuse, he officially announced on Monday that he would be entering the transfer portal.
While it’s not a guarantee that Majstorovic will leave, he’s the latest player to do so after forward Chris Bell and guards Elijah Moore and Kyle Cuffe also announced they would enter the portal. Majstorovic got plenty of chances to play for the Orange from head coach Adrian Autry, but it feels like he never fully broke out for Syracuse.
His best game came on Jan. 25 in a 77-73 loss to the Pittsburgh Panthers, where Majstorovic scored 10 points and added 5 rebounds, shooting an efficient 80% from the field while hitting his only three-point attempt.
Outside of that 10-point performance, Majstorovic didn’t score in double figures in any other game this season. He made his mark more on the offensive glass than on the scoresheet, as he averaged more rebounds than points.
Despite playing 20+ minutes in just six of the 31 games he suited up in this year, Majstorovic had 10 games with at least five rebounds. He also added great defensive energy, providing nearly half a steal per game in his 13.4 minutes.
While Majstorovic didn’t have any high scoring games, he was efficient in his limited minutes, shooting 48.4% from the field and 41.7% from deep. If he is leaving the Orange, it’ll still be disappointing when considering that he was set to take on a larger role next season.
Even with Syracuse picking up UCLA forward William Kyle in the transfer portal, Majstorovic’s potential exit leaves even more uncertainty for the Orange next season. Despite a talented incoming recruiting class, Syracuse will still need all the help it can get in Autry’s third season with the Orange and fans desperate for winning basketball.
