It’s so hard to get inside the heads of teenagers. For all we know, half the kids who SU recruits are Twilight fanboys and listen to Justin Bieber.
It’s just as hard to figure out the college choices of these kids. Take, for example, Scout.com’s recruiting prospects page.
As it should, the list sorts via highest skill ranking. With that look in mind, SU appears to be “in” on some of the best recruits in the country, 5-star guys who could change a school’s fortunes. However, the “list” of considering schools has more to do with contact from college to recruit, rather than the other way around.
Take, for example, Savon Huggins. The star running back out of Jersey City, NJ has Syracuse on the list. Along with Florida, Alabama, Notre Dame, Oregon, and the rest of the BCS.
Does SU have a shot at Huggins? Well, no. However, nobody could know that, because, up to this point, he hasn’t narrowed his list down.
We here at The Fizz have tried to discriminate our best on what is in the best interests of SU fans. We usually do interviews with recruits who have signed on with the Orange, like this past week’s with Tyree Smallwood.
Similarly, we’ve tried to think about traditional battles that the ‘Cuse has been locked in on, like the Vance Roberts situation.
It’s tough. These are kids who often don’t even have their driver’s licenses, and sometimes misinterpret a letter from an offer.
The Fizz will keep plugging away for you.
