According the Hearald-Dispatch of Huntington, West Virginia, coveted big man Thomas Bryant is expected to make his college choice after the completion of the Dick’s Nationals, which takes place next weekend.
Bryant has gotten plenty of attention from the Fizz, and for good reason. Getting his commitment would put the Orange’s recruiting class over the top and potentially at the best in the nation. He would also be the second McDonald’s All American arriving at SU next season. The McDonald’s All American game is scheduled for April 1.
Bryant, a Rochester native, attends Huntington Prep in West Virginia. His mother wants him to attend Syracuse, but the Orange is facing some stiff competition from other top schools. Indiana and Kentucky are the biggest competitors currently, while Missouri has fallen behind in the race. According to 247sports, Bryant is trending towards the Wildcats and the Hoosiers at this moment in time.
While Syracuse was once considered the favorite to earn Thomas Bryant’s commitment, the NCAA penalties have complicated things. Although the Orange has retained its four other commitments, Thomas Bryant would still have an available scholarship due to the transfers of BJ Johnson and Ron Patterson last week. But, the drama surrounding the program right now may be discouraging Bryant from coming to Syracuse. It has also been reported that the coaching staff had lost touch with Bryant recently.
Right now, fans shouldn’t have their hopes set too high. It has been well-documented that Bryant is leaning towards Indiana and Kentucky, but the coaching situation in Indiana is something to keep an eye on. With Bryant being expected to announce his decision in just a few days, BJ Johnson’s transfer to LaSalle would have to be completed soon in order for a scholarship to officially be open.
Don’t put it past this coaching staff to sell Bryant on SU, but certainly don’t be surprised if he decides to play in Bloomington or Lexington during the next few years.
