The Orange recruiting class under Dino Babers has literally become a revolving door.  As old verbal commitments bow out of the class, it seems like there is always another ready to step in and take their place.  Once again, Babers showed his magic in the last 24 hours.
Quarterback Lindsey Scott became the latest high schooler to drop his pledge from the Orange.  The three-star recruit had a rocky road getting to SU, as his position was fairly undetermined.  Scott committed to SU in October and had been putting up huge numbers in his senior season since.  From Louisiana, Scott was wooed by Tim Lester, obviously part of former coach Scott Shafer’s staff.
Although losing Scott hurts, the Orange already has one quarterback recruit coming into the program next year.  Rex Culpepper, a three-star signal caller, is a more traditional QB as opposed to Scott, who is most known as a dual-threat player.  He is currently rehabbing from an ACL tear.  The Orange also returns Eric Dungey, who will presumably get the starting nod as a true sophomore.
While Scott left the program, outside linebacker Andrew Armstrong became the 13th player in the 2016 class.  A two-star player, Armstrong was originally committed to Bowling Green but obviously flipped because of Babers and his coaching staff.  He stands at 6-foot-2, 215 pounds and has a ton of versatility.  During his senior season, Armstrong played tight end and safety, but projects as an outside linebacker for Babers.
Armstrong‚Äôs commitment comes on the heels of safety Devon Clarke and athlete Sean Riley‚Äôs, who visited campus last weekend.¬† Armstrong was part of this visit, and chose the Orange over schools like Wake Forest and Cincinnati after calling it “amazing”.¬† It will certainly take Babers some time to cement himself as a great ACC recruiter, but for someone who just came into this job, he‚Äôs doing a great job filling holes from all of Shafers‚Äô decommitments.¬† It would be unfair to judge him based solely on his efforts in the last few months.
