Syracuse didn’t play yesterday, but all four of its remaining opponents did. A few days ago, we looked ahead to the final four games on SU’s schedule. After two surprising outcomes, the Orange’s path to a bowl game is now less clear.
Boston College 35 РFlorida State 3: The Eagles dominated the Seminoles at Chestnut Hill for their third consecutive victory. This one was perhaps even more lopsided than the score indicates. After Florida State’s week one loss to Alabama, it hadn’t lost another game by double digits. This outcome hurts Syracuse. Not only will Florida State be fired up next week at home after getting embarrassed, but the season finale against Boston College becomes a much more difficult matchup. It’s good to know the Seminoles are beatable, but what are the odds they put together clunkers in back to back weeks? Syracuse is going to have to be more than solid next week to pick up its first road win of the season.
Wake Forest 42 – Louisville 32: This was a season-changing win for Wake Forest. The Demon Deacons were reeling coming into this one, but protected their home turf against Lamar Jackson and the Cardinals. Louisville hasn‚Äôt been great this year, so this is far from a miraculous victory. With that said, it shows that Wake Forest still has some fight left in them. Instead of coming into the Carrier Dome on November 11th on a losing streak, the Demon Deacons now have an opportunity to come in on a two-game winning streak. The week after the Orange battles the Demon Deacons, it travels to Louisville. Considering the Cardinals have lost to both Wake and BC, Syracuse’s November 18th matchup at Papa John‚Äôs Stadium looks a little less intimidating.
Any way you look at it, all four of the games left on SU’s schedule are winnable. If Syracuse takes things one game at a time, there could be a special ending to the 2017 season.
