While the transfer portal doesn’t officially open until Monday, teams that didn’t make the postseason have already seen a mass exodus of players. We’ve already featured a player on Orange Fizz that the Orange should target. What about guys on the current roster who could be leaving? It seems like we may have gotten a sign of the first guy to go from one of last years transfers.
Quadir Copeland posted on his Instagram story last night a picture of Chris Bell and said, “See you soon kid.” Copeland left the Orange last season for the Southland Conference to play for Will Wade at Mcneese State. Wade could be on his way to the Atlantic Coast Conference, but maybe the former SU teammates team up once again.
Mike Waters did tweet regarding the post, “I’m told by Chris Bell’s dad that no decision has been made regarding next year. End of year interview with SU coaches hasn’t taken place yet.” So it isn’t official yet but, it still wouldn’t be surprising at all if Bell leaves.
Chris Bell has always shown promise as an elite three-point shooter. As a freshman, Jim Boeheim played Bell 20 minutes per game but was extremely strict with pulling him. Bell would be just a minute into playing then get taken out following one defensive mishap. That was the start of the frustration and bad body language but of course, Bell stayed two more years with Autry.
Last year, it felt like Bell finally found his groove. The wing shot 42% from deep and had multiple games where he was unstoppable. This year that just wasn’t the case. Bell struggled to ever catch fire and the sharpshooter shot just 35% from range. He got taken out of the starting lineup and played six minutes less per game than last year.
It would be a shock to absolutely no one if Bell leaves on Monday.
