Flashback to the fall of 2011. Syracuse made its decision to leave the Big East for the ACC.

Flashback to last season. In its final season in the Big East, Syracuse drops both regular-season basketball games to Georgetown.

Flashback to Tuesday, when Syracuse announced it would renew its rivalry with Georgetown.

NOW is the time to be into Syracuse basketball. Feel free to jump on the bandwagon, if necessary.

Syracuse already has a new conference rival in Duke. SU split the 2014 season series with the Blue Devils, with the home team coming out on top in both games. Now with Georgetown visiting the Dome twice in four seasons, starting in 2015-16, coupled with the Duke games, these are two of the big steps the program wanted to make when it made the switch to the ACC.

There was talk about setting up a schedule for Syracuse and Georgetown to play each other in a nonconference game, but it was not official until Tuesday. This is just another reason to look at the continued growth of Syracuse basketball. This is big for recruits. This is a rivalry with so much history on the court and the Dome atmosphere on game day, for a Georgetown game is something that has brought SU recruits to call the Dome their home court.

This is just an addition to the Duke games. That is the game for recruits. These are the games that are nationally televised and getting some of the most views in a week of college basketball. For the recruits, they want to see the Dome environment. They can see the new rivalry by attending a Duke game, and then they can see the history of these two teams on the court in a Georgetown game.

The competition is unreal. And it only gets better: for recruits, these games mean so much.

Syracuse has the top recruiting class for the Class of 2015. With games against Duke and Georgetown, this will only be bigger for the recruits coming in later years. Although Georgetown does not have the same team as the year it was a favorite to win the NCAA Championship in 2013, it’s the history behind the rivalry that high school players want to be a part of.

They want to stitch their name into Orange basketball history.

Although Syracuse has a legacy of success, so do the Blue Devils. Duke will always have one of the top recruiting classes. It is almost certain they will have a talented class coming into the 2015-16 season and with that, and Syracuse’s top recruiting class, it could be a game of future superstars

Get excited, folks. This is what Orange Nation has been waiting for.
