Everyone’s waiting for Brandon Knight to finally make his decision.
The Gatorade Player of the Year and easily the most coveted recruit in the country is playing it close to the vest as D-Day looms.
We are closing in on the commencement of Late Signing Period, which starts next week and runs through May 19. We will finally know where the dynamic Mr. Knight will ply his trade (maybe for only one season).
Miami has just been crossed off his list of choices. The only schools left are: Kentucky, Kansas, Florida, Syracuse, and UConn. He will not take any more official visits, but he might make an unofficial visit to Syracuse.
A source close to The Fizz believes while not the front-runner, Knight could be intrigued by the Orange.
“Oh yeah, definitely. I think Kentucky is the obvious leader in the clubhouse. But a few weeks ago it seemed Syracuse was dead. As they had that run at the end of the year, the Villanova game, the #1 ranking, then the one-seed in the tourney. All of a sudden the Orange pop up on his list again.
Now, there’s buzz that’s he’s gonna take an unofficial visit to the Dome as the signing period gets going. I think the signs point to him starting to get more interested in playing for Boeheim and in front of 30,000 people.”
The mass exodus at Kentucky certainly opens up the game in Coach Cal’s favor. Not only has the departure of John Wall left open Knight’s spot on the floor, Calipari has produced Derrick Rose, Tyreke Evans and now Wall as quick entrants into the NBA cash party.
The Fizz is thinking about extending an offer to Patrick Patterson’s mother after her analysis of the college recruiting landscape. With half of the Wildcats squad declaring for the NBA, Tywanna Patterson says her son has not made up his mind yet.
She believes Calipari issued the release as a way to help with recruiting.
“Me personally, I think it is Cal’s way to get recruits to commit and wants to make sure they know John (Wall), DeMarcus (Cousins), Daniel (Orton) and Eric (Bledsoe) are gone along with Patrick. Pat didn’t know they were sending that statement out tonight.”
If Knight has made up his mind, he’s playing a great game of poker. But the longer this drags, the better it seems for ‘Cuse. Because a month ago, it seemed over with the Orange. Today, SU is at least still in the game.
