Recruiting Update: Syracuse Targets Strickland, Fredericks & Robinson All Shine

Members of SU’s 2015 recruiting class continue to impress.

True freshmen quarterback AJ Long and receiver Steve Ishmael wowed Orange fans with their performances Saturday against Wake Forest. So far this season both players have made significant contributions to Syracuse football despite their age. SU will have more talented freshmen coming to campus in 2015 and their abilities were on full display this weekend.

In New Jersey, South Brunswick’s running back Dontae Strickland continued his incredible senior season in his team’s 20-17 come from behind win against Monroe (NJ). Strickland returned a punt 95 yards in the first quarter for a touchdown and rushed for a second score in the fourth quarter to give his team the win. The running back’s two TD’s puts him at 12 for the season after only five games.

Strickland’s 12 scores is nothing compared to Lawrence (NY) running back Jordan Fredericks’ touchdown total. Through six games the back has found the end zone a remarkable 20 times. In Lawrence’s 34-16 win over Plainedge (NY), Fredericks rushed for 112 yards and a second quarter score. He returned a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter as well. Lawrence is a perfect 6-0 on the year after Saturday’s victory.

MikeTunsil.com named Champagnat High School (FL) corner Gerald “Bubba” Robinson his defensive player of the week for his performance against Keys Gate (FL). Robinson covered Florida International commit Raymond Cage in the game and did not allow the receiver to catch a pass. With the win, Champagnat improved to 4-1 on the season.
