Boy oh boy.
This is for sure going to be a crazy conference season, especially after Syracuse snuck out a 46-45 win over Georgia Tech on Wednesday night.
This was a game where the shots just did not fall, and Syracuse better figure something out about Chris McCullough and it has to happen fast. The freshman was 1-for-7 from the field and finished with three points. Since the Villanova game, he has not helped the Orange. He is someone who has too much promise in his collegiate and professional career to be a non-factor right now. If he is not struggling the way he is, Syracuse has a much easier win against Virginia Tech, as well as
Wednesday against Georgia Tech.
The SU defense was strong, forcing the Yellow Jackets to shoot 26 percent from the field and 3-for-17 from deep. When the defense is good, the offense has to excel, which did not happen. The defense put the offense in position to win, but it was too close.
Props to Michael Gbinije, who has really continued to step up when Kaleb Joseph has not been performing well. The good thing about Joseph is that he has cut down on turnovers, only committing three in his last three games. Gbinije is has made 11 of his last 16 three-pointers and has been the man really picking up the slack. As the schedule gets tougher, Gbinije is going to need to continue to be a go-to scoring option.
Syracuse is off until Sunday when it opens its home ACC schedule against Florida State.
