Highly coveted PG Tyus Battle has chosen Michigan, before having taken his visit to Syracuse. It’s a tough pill to swallow for a program that felt like it was one of the front-runners. Battle apparently fell in love with Michigan’s business school, and that was it. He chooses the Wolverines over Duke and Louisville. Battle had traveled there over the weekend, and he had taken an unofficial trip to Ann Arbor earlier.
Some highly anticipated decisions have come down recently, and interestingly the football team got the better news. SU was on the right side of Robert Washington’s call, the wrong side of this and Thomas Bryant’s.
Can’t fault a player for being attracted to the academic side of things, so hopefully it turns out well for him, For the Orange, it’s a bummer because Battle was one of the best recruits SU was locked in on for ’16. The Orange now have to turn their sights elsewhere. Now Alterique Gilbert looks even more important, another talented guard. He’s a guy that has¬†stirred back up some of old UConn rivalry feelings. There’s also Kevin Huerter, who’s a combo guard. But would he head to prep school for one season, to join the Orange in ’17?
With the scholarship reductions, math is playing an interesting part in the acquisition of recruits. How will Boeheim and Hopkins (and company) approach piecing together the Class of ’16 now that Battle is heading to UM?
