Syracuse Football’s National Signing Day Preview

Early National Signing Day is nearly here. Tomorrow, Syracuse football prepares to sign the better part of its 2021 recruiting class. Of the 21 players committed to the Orange, 20 are expected to sign tomorrow, which should get SU fans excited. The only player a part of the 21 that will not be signing tomorrow is the 3-star defensive lineman out of Rochester, Jaelin Moss, he’s expected to sign in February.

SU’s class is entirely made up of 3-star recruits, good enough for 52nd best in the country, but just 12th best within the ACC.

As for what it looks like in terms of personnel. Dino Babers looks like he’s attempting to plug some holes that are imminent within a couple years. Obviously, QB is one of those. Tommy DeVito is coming back this season after an injury knocked him out for the majority of the 2020 campaign. It seems that Justin Lamson could be his successor among other candidates within the SU quarterback room. The offensive line is always a hot topic surrounding SU football, this season Babers look to bring in at least five guys to join the men in the trenches. Airon Servais is coming back for a 6th season after being granted an extra year of eligibility. He’s one of this team’s leaders, Syracuse fans should be happy that Servais will be around to mentor the younger guys who join the roster next season. In 10 games this season Taj Harris was incredibly reliable for SU. The junior receiver had 733 yards to go along with 5 touchdowns. However, outside of Harris, the WR spot is pretty bare. Babers looks to add three new receivers to the mix next season, hopefully by the time Taj has moved on from Syracuse, those guys are ready to go. The defensive line was also a big hole for SU this season. Four out of SU’s 5 defensive linemen recruits are slated to sign tomorrow. Josh Black will do the same job mentoring these young bucks that Airon Servais does on the other side of the ball.
