All the chatter is finally starting to come to life, as the first domino fell at 12:30 p.m., Wednesday.
6-foot-9 Elizaville, NY forward Tyler Lydon was the first official signee for the Syracuse 2015 recruiting class. Lydon signed on the dotted line at New Hampton Prep. He was excited to share on Twitter.
6-foot-8 forward Moustapha Diagne followed Lydon. From Senegal, Diagne is a senior at Pope John XXII HS in Sparta, NJ.
The pair should have company joining them starting today. The “next SU point guard” Franklin Howard plans to sign today. Howard mentioned to Syracuse.com he wants to prove himself during his senior season after suffering multiple injuries.
Shooting guard Malachi Richardson will get his go at it with the pen this coming Saturday.
This is a very exciting time for Syracuse hoops fans, especially with the current team’s season starting tomorrow night against Kennesaw State. It’s just the early signing period for college recruits, which means it’s a set week, November 12-19.
Seeing the photos of kids making things official not only excites the kids themselves, but also Jim Boeheim‚Äôs staff and of course, the fan base. Social media has emerged as a go-to tool for both football and basketball recruiting. Fans have spammed these kids‚Äô pages. Lydon actually favorited a tweet The Fizz sent out a few weeks back about him being at the Cheesecake Factory. It’s things like this that helps lighten the mood On the Hill with SU hoops playing in the non-conference and a slumping football program.
The question that remains is, will Syracuse add to this quartet? Thomas Bryant has made it clear he wants to see all of his visits out despite murkiness at Indiana and, well uh, I guess SU too. He’s undoubtedly the missing piece.
Either way, nice to know these kids are buying in using the early signing period.
