Monday Recruiting: Two 2016 Orange Targets Grab Victories

Find out how the SU football commits and targets are faring in high school.

This Saturday Oak Ridge (FL) linebacker Jonathan Jones will be watching Syracuse take on Clemson from the Carrier Dome alongside teammates Cycoby Burch and Tyrek Tisdale during their official visits.

This past weekend the trio led Oak Ridge to a 19-9 regular season finale win over Lyman (FL). Jones returned an interception for a touchdown in the game. With the win, Oak Ridge heads into the playoffs with a 9-2 record.

In Ohio, Syracuse 2016 defensive back target Tony Butler’s St. Ed’s team won its first round playoff game over Cleveland Heights 20-12 Saturday.

Syracuse has offered Butler a scholarship and last week the cornerback told the Fizz he was excited to visit the school. A visit most likely won’t be on the table now however; Butler has narrowed his collegiate list down to West Virginia and Arizona State according to a report from Scout.com.

Looking to committed players, SU 2017 linebacker commit Isaiah McDuffie’s Bennett (NY) team lost a playoff heartbreaker 29-28 to Maple Grove/Chautauqua Lake (NY) to end their season Saturday.

This game was very controversial. McDuffie’s father, Steve McDuffie, coaches Bennett and told the Buffalo News afterwards that he did not think the referees called the game fairly.

“This was the worst officiated game I’ve ever been a part of… The officials gave [Maple Grove/CL] the second touchdown, and they gave them the third touchdown. They did not drive the ball on us. They were not the better team this day. They did not deserve to win.”

It was a frustrating night for Bennett, but McDuffie still found success in the loss. The linebacker also plays running back for Bennett and finished the game with 96 yards and two touchdowns.

Who are you most excited to see in an SU football uniform in the coming years?
