Monday Recruiting: Andrew Armstrong Discusses Dino Babers and Much More

After visiting the linebacker knew SU was his school.

Ohio linebacker Andrew Armstrong committed to SU a few days before Syracuse received verbal pledges from a host of recruits this past weekend. He spoke with the Fizz and broke down why he committed to the Orange, the relationship he has with SU’s coach and much more.

Armstrong says his official visit played a big role in his commitment.

“I had a previous relationship with that staff when they were at Bowling Green and I obviously committed to them, and then going up and actually seeing the campus first hand and experiencing all of the great things about Syracuse, I knew in my heart and my parents knew that it was the right place for me, so I knew I didn’t have to take other visits, I knew Syracuse was the right place.”

The linebacker is specifically excited by the SU football infrastructure.

“After visiting the Carrier Dome and seeing the brand new facility, the indoor facility it was just awesome, it was an awesome experience and I’d love to play in front of 45,000 people in that arena. Just talking to the current players on the team and discussing how great it is and all of the tradition that goes into the university…I felt at home when I was there.”

Armstrong stayed with Zaire Franklin during his visit.

“Zaire was my host so I got to sit down and talk with him quite a bit. All of the things he said were positive things, they’re super excited about the new staff so it was really cool getting to meet him and just talking to him about playing linebacker and attending Syracuse.”

He speaks highly of Babers and the rest of his future coaching staff.

“We have a great relationship, he talks about the family atmosphere and being there for me and turning me into a great young man outside of football and inside of football, just being a great person in general. I just have a great relationship with him, he’s a terrific guy, a class act along with all of the other coaches, all of the other coaches are great and I have a lot of respect for all of them.”
