Connecticut running back recruit CJ Holmes visited Syracuse for SU’s Spring Football Game two weeks ago. The Fizz caught up with the tailback earlier this week on Fizz Radio.
“It was awesome. I mean it’s not my first time going up to Syracuse and every time I’m up there the coaches show me a lot of love. It’s always a great time being around the atmosphere and the Dome,” the running back said.
Holmes also plays wide receiver and safety. Syracuse’s coaching staff is recruiting him purely as a running back though.
“They show a lot of appreciation for my elusiveness and my ability to play multiple positions on the offensive side of the field. They really want me to come in and be that real edgy star tailback that all teams need in order to get an offense going. Really they just appreciate me as an athlete.”
In addition to SU, the Connecticut native likes a few other schools.
“My highs would definitely be Syracuse, Penn State and right now Tennessee in no order,” Holmes said.
The running back’s reason for liking Syracuse comes down to Dino Babers’ offense.
“It’s a dream come true for any offensive player. It’s fast, it’s spread out, it gets skilled players into space and it puts people in positions to make plays. You can’t really complain about an offense that gives every skill position on the field some type of opportunity to be the football player that they are.”
When will Holmes commit to a school? He has a few ideas.
“I’ve been really aiming to announce a possible commitment this summer or after my upcoming football season. I haven’t really determined which one I’m going to do yet. Some kind of commitment or top three will be formally released very, very soon.”
