CJ Lewis visited Syracuse for the Orange’s Spring Football Game a few weeks ago with a couple of his Cheshire Academy teammates. Lewis does not yet have an SU offer and will visit two other schools in the near future, Tennessee and Rutgers. Despite the lack of an offer, he still left the Hill feeling good about Syracuse Football.
“I really enjoyed [the Spring Game]. It was fun interacting with the coaches and players. I liked how they performed. They did a lot of high tempo, high paced offense stuff, which I like. I was really impressed with how they’re turning around the Syracuse program,” the quarterback said.
Lewis stated the reason he’s yet to receive a Syracuse scholarship offer comes down to the fact that the SU staff has not yet been able to personally evaluate him.
“They said that they really loved my film, they just haven’t seen me throw in person. Hopefully they’ll come down in the spring. We have a showcase at my school so they’ll come down and watch me throw and then we’ll go from there.”
The Connecticut native thinks he’ll fit nicely in the Orange offense.
“I think Coach Babers is looking for a real dual-threat who can throw the ball and run the ball and I think I can do both of those. I can conduct, his high paced, fast offense. I think I’m going to do a little bit of that this year at my school so I’m going to be prepared for anything at any level,” Lewis said.
Defensive backs coach Nick Monroe was the one who started recruiting the QB a few months ago.
“My recruiting coordinator Coach Monroe watched my film and he followed me on Twitter and DM’ed me and we started building a relationship from there. Then I went on the visit and I talked with Coach Babers and Coach Lewis and they really seemed interested in me. They liked my height, they like my film, the whole staff loved it.”
