Syracuse Lands Second 2019 Recruit

Three-star defensive tackle Joe Rondi has verbally committed to Syracuse, according to his twitter account.

Rondi, a New Jersey native, chose Syracuse over several schools, including Rutgers. Rondi is 6-foot-4, 250 pounds and is listed as a three-star recruit by 247Sports. Ranked as the 86th best defensive tackle in his class, Rondi also has the capabilities to play on the offensive line. Given his size and ability to bench 335-pounds as just a junior in high school, Rondi figures to hold his own at the power five level.

Check out his highlights here.

Syracuse has been chasing Rondi hard after it offered him during his April visit. Not only did Dino Babers and his staff get a guy they really wanted, but they poached him away from his in-state school, Rutgers. Persuading targets like Rondi to leave their home state schools will be crucial if Syracuse wants to establish itself as an above-average football program.

It’s clear Syracuse views Rondi as a player that can really help them going forward. Now, the task becomes keeping him locked in on SU once other schools start to feel the same way.

Rondi joins slot receiver Courtney Jackson as the only two 2019 recruits who have verbally committed to play at Syracuse.
